Ludwig II (25 August 1845 – 13 June 1886), known as the Swan King or the Fairy Story King, used to be King of Bavaria from 1864 till his dying in 1886. He exercised his penchant for problematic castles through construction 3 architectural masterpieces: Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee and Neuschwanstein, the fanciful imaginative and prescient of a medieval citadel.
